This is truly my most favorite time of year. As the crisp air rolls in and the temperature drops, and the leaves begin to change, I not only love to bake more, but I also start to crave all things cozy.
Nothing invokes the taste of fall quite like pumpkin spice. It’s in everything from lattes to Blondies (see what I did there), pumpkin spice or PSL has become the official flavor of fall.
Pumpkin spice is a tantalizing combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger allspice, and cloves. It’s sweet, spicy, and super cozy. Since I have no sense of taste and smell, the best way I can describe the flavor to you is imagine the feeling you get when you drink a hot cup of your favorite drink on a cool crisp day, and how that toasty drink evokes your senses and warms your soul, giving you all the warm fall fuzzies!
I have always adored pumpkin pie, it reminds me of gratitude, family, gatherings, blessings, Thanksgiving, March of the wooden soldiers, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and my birthday.
Like many people born in late November, my birthday falls on Thanksgiving Day once every seven years. Regardless of when it fell, my birthday was always intertwined and celebrated at Thanksgiving.
When I was very young, I was told that I was a Thanksgiving baby, I was most often called a turkey. In fact, my dad used to tell me that the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade was created special just for me, and that every year on my birthday there would be a big parade just for me.
Just like that, wouldn't you know every year on my birthday there was a big HUGE parade!
I remember being glued to the television watching all of the big balloons going by and thinking how special I must be to have a big parade on my birthday every single year. My dad was magic. Every year just like he promised, there it was, that special parade just for me. All I had to do was believe!
Looking back I know my dad was trying to help me believe in the magic of my birthday, because often times my birthday was lost in the shuffle of the busy Thanksgiving holiday.
Part of that special day also came with the magic of pumpkin pie. I could not get enough of the warm, intoxicating spices that were carefully blended and baked into a pumpkin pie. That concoction of pumpkin pie spices is what makes it taste so good!
As you know, my grandma introduced me to baking and I have lovingly passed that tradition on to my children. So, my sweet Melanie became obsessed with pumpkin pie. She started baking her “Famous” pumpkin pie every year for our Thanksgiving holiday tradition. The pumpkin pie became her pie to bake. Since she knew how much I love, love, love pumpkin pie, it has become my special birthday desert every year.
I wanted to capture and celebrate the essence of my childhood through my fall brownie collection, what better way than to spice things up! I took our traditional family pumpkin pie spices and delicately blended into my golden buttery brown sugar blondie adding a fun seasonal twist to the already delicious dessert; taking me back in time with every magical bite!
If you're ready to indulge in a new autumn favorite, this is the one that will give you all the warm fuzzy fall feels!!
Wishing you cool crisp days and warm cozy treats!
